Many of you are aware of our growing partnership and connection with the Hermanos en Cristo en Cuba church in the University neighbourhood of Santa Clara. Only a month ago we announced that their desire for 2024 is that we could help them purchase the materials for a floor and help them install it with a work team in the fall. While this is still a long term need, something urgent has replaced a floor at the top of their priorities.
We have been asked to help them get their vehicle moving again. The pastoral family and church have a small three wheel electric vehicle that they use as a church bus, delivery vehicle, and personal transportation. Multiple times a week, this small “car” is used to bring many people to church who could not walk the distance to get there. A heavy load on the batteries over the past months, including many hospital trips, has left the batteries unable to drive the vehicle.
It will cost $1200 USD for them to get the engine. We would like to raise that money (appx $1700 CAD) for them as soon as possible to help them get the vehicle on the road. The $500 raised by our Inspire Camp will go towards this project. Our Covenant Board has approved this change in project priorities, as has BIC Canada Global and Hermanos en Cristo en Cuba. This is an essential ministry tool for the church.
As God leads you and as you are able, please contribute to our “Global Fund” to support our BIC family in Santa Clara, Cuba. Contributions can be made online at www.covenantchurch.ca/give or in person at the church. Make sure you designate to “Global Fund” to join in this project.
We are still planning on a fall team to visit the University Church in Santa Clara. This change in the project does change the nature of the team, however. This will be more of a ministry partnership and relationship-building team. In light of this change, if you would like to find out more about the trip, please fill out the expression of interest form at https://forms.gle/w5ZjCrQoPAdCpyNL7.
Any money raised over and above the project needs will remain in our Global Fund for this fall trip or for future projects.
