I have come to the conclusion that there are only two reasons for ever doing anything. One is love, the other is fear.
-Call the Midwife
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world, we are like Jesus. here is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.
-1 John 4:16-19
What courageous act of love are you being invited to today, right now, this week? And what fear may be holding you back?
Are you afraid of what people might think of you if you say yes . . . or no?
Are you afraid to fail . . . or succeed?
Are you afraid to forgive . . . or walk away?
Are you afraid to let go . . . or hold on?
Are you afraid to speak . . . or be quiet?
Are you afraid to lead . . . or trust others?
Are you afraid to share . . . or stand out?
Are you afraid to serve . . . or be served?
Are you afraid to go . . . or stay?
Know this. You are loved. You are loved with a perfect love. Your success or failure does not define you. The love of God does. Even being controlled by fear does not form who you truly are. The faithful love of God does. Will you lean into that love? And will you allow that place of security become the foundation from which you choose to live your life and love like Jesus?
Maybe don't stay too long considering that question, "Are you afraid to . . . ?"
Spend more time considering, "How does the love of Jesus compelling me to live?" (2 Corinthians 5:14)
You are deeply and perfectly loved. May you and I love well in response.
