In less than two weeks we will enter the season of Advent . . . a time in which we adopt a posture of waiting for Christmas and the celebration of Jesus' birth. As we wait for this celebration of God showing his love to us through his presence in our broken world, I'd like you to prayerfully consider how you might be used to show his love in the world. Let me suggest three ways you could consider:

  • Support a local agency through volunteering or giving. There are many local service agencies who serve as the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need. They rely on individuals like you and me to help them care for people. Prayerfully consider how you might participate in their tangible loving of the world.
  • Sponsor a child on Christian Island through purchasing a gift for them. Each year, at Covenant, we help serve our local First Nation community by purchasing gifts for children who otherwise would not receive anything for Christmas. We work through Beausoleil First Nation Social Services who give us details (age and gender) of those in need. We purchase the gifts and send them to the Island through social services who will pass them along to parents. Parents are then able to give gifts to the children on Christmas Day. This year we have fifty-six children in need of gifts, ranging in age from 1 month to sixteen years. Details and opportunities to "take" a child for whom you will purchase a gift will be available this Sunday morning. If you aren't able to be at Covenant on Sundays but would like to sponsor a child you may do so by a) e-mailing office@covenantchurch.ca and arranging for a specific child, or b) providing some money with which someone else can purchase a gift on your behalf. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Jon at jon@covenantchurch.ca.
  • Invite people to join you for Advent services during the month of December - at Covenant or elsewhere. In our confusing and chaotic world, it may be that hearing about the hope, peace, joy, and love of Jesus at Christmas is exactly what they need! At Covenant, we'll be doing 9:30 am and 11 am services on December 3, 10, and 17th. Our 17th services will feature our Covenant Kids sharing the joy of Jesus through story and song. On December 24th we will have two identical Christmas Eve services at 11 am and 5 pm.

Advent, this season of waiting, can be hard with all the busyness and excitement of Christmas to come. I pray that God will help each of us to sow seeds of comfort and joy during this season we are approaching!
