This past week we, along with our extended family of churches across Canada, recognized our new family name. We are officially Be In Christ Church of Canada. (Discover more about who we are and about the new name here: http://www.canadianbic.ca/)
As a part of this launch we at Covenant have been talking about what it means to Be In Christ and to grow into that reality. This coming Sunday our theme is BELONG. While we will be talking about belonging, we will also practice one of the ancient expressions of belonging by celebrating communion together. In the afternoon we will be gathering together for our first Coffee & Conversation of this new season. To help us prepare for both of these times, here is some helpful information and updates:
- Communion Sunday Morning
- Service times at 9:30 and 11 am
- In addition to celebrating communion we also welcome donations for our local foodbank and we take up a community care offering inviting contributions to be used to extend support and care within our community
- We will not be having a fellowship time with snacks between services this week because of our afternoon Coffee & Conversation time.
- Coffee & Conversation
- Starting at 4 pm in our main auditorium
- Bring a napkin friendly snack to share with others who attend. (If you can't bring a snack . . . come anyway!)
- This is a time of conversation. It is not a business meeting! We talk and share about the items on the agenda and everyone's input is welcome. You don't need to be a member to attend or participate.
- The conversation items for this meeting includes:
- Our new nomination process & who you think could/should be a part of the committee this fall.
- Our efforts to improve our congregational care efforts and whether or not we should still elect/affirm deacons through a vote (and therefore requiring them to be members) when our Be In Christ Church of Canada leadership has moved away from asking for this for deacons.
- Our future ministry growth and considering facility space needed to support it. We've had some facility questions come up recently and we're considering putting together a team to look at our ministries; lead us in assessing our facility needs in light of them; and making recommendations to us in regards to how to update, adapt, and build to meet those needs. We'd like to talk about this and talk about who might be good to serve as a part of that team
The Bible uses several images to describe the church - a family, a body, a building. One of the beautiful things about each of these images is that each part belongs with, and in some part, to each other because of our connection to Christ. We have a great opportunity to live out our belonging alongside you on Sunday morning and on Sunday afternoon as we gather together and throughout the next season as we lean in to God helping us to increasingly Be In Christ together.
