Hearing the Voice of God Through the Bible

Over the course of 2018-2019 we are talking about the Bible and, more importantly, learning to listen to God through the Bible. As a part of encouraging each other, I would like to invite you to share your story of a specific way in which God has spoken to you through the Bible. It may have been a time you were encouraged. Maybe challenged. Possibly even led to reconsider previous assumptions. It might have been a sudden thing that happened during study. It may have been something he led you to or offered you over an extended period of time. Will you share your story of God speaking to you through his word? Click on the link to go to a form where you can tell your story!

HOW GOD HAS SPOKEN TO ME THROUGH THE BIBLE

My hope is that by thinking about and writing your story, you will grow to appreciate how God has used the Bible to breath his voice into you and encourage you. I also hope to use some of these stories to bless and encourage our congregation over the course of the year. I'll confirm with the author before using the story, but some of them I may ask to be a part of a Sunday morning. Other's I may ask to include as a part of a Covenant Weekly.

I look forward to hearing your story and seeing how God will use them to encourage each other this year!

Reunion Groups

This coming Sunday we are beginning our new sermon, personal study, and small group series called (Re)union. Our study will be working through the material in (Re)union: the good news of Jesus for Seekers, Saints, and Sinners by Be in Christ Church of Canada pastor, Bruxy Cavey. To get the most out of the study we invite you to participate in three ways:

  1. Listen to the sermons on Sunday mornings (or the recording of the sermons at home)
  2. Read the relevant portions of (Re)union:  the good news of Jesus for Seekers, Saints, and Sinners
  3. Participate in a (re)union group (a house church or Bible study group) for a conversation about the teaching

If you would like to be a part of a small group but are not connected with one already, here are the options you will be able to sign up for on Sunday morning.

  • Monday Evening (7 pm) - Wilfried & Ursula Hahn - Tiny Township (space for 4 more people)
  • Monday Evening - Penny Copeland & Mack Dickson - Midland (space for 3 more people)
  • Wednesday Morning (10-11:30 am) - Women's Bible Study with Elise Robitaille - at Covenant Church (lots of space in the auditorium!)

Covenant Church Staffing

On Sunday morning an update on our Next Generation Ministry Director search and staffing situation was read on behalf of the Covenant board. A summary of their announcement is this:

  • Despite a prayerful search, our search team still does not have a candidate to recommend for this role.
  • In light of this, the Covenant board decided in early August to open the door to an interim position (to last until the end of June 2018) to share the responsibilities at Covenant with Pastor Jon (including his current responsibility for youth). They approved searching for someone who could work for 40 hours per week and opened the door for a creative sharing of the load.
  • After much prayer and consideration (and attempts to dismiss the idea because it didn't seem possible) Pastor Jon approached Mary Paillé and asked her to prayerfully consider an interim role.
  • On Tuesday, September 18, after affirmation from the search team and approval by the board, Mary Paillé agreed to come on staff at Covenant as the Interim Youth and Congregational Life Director. She and Pastor Jon will be sharing many responsibilities - with Mary being the point person for some and Jon being the point person for others.
  • Mary's start date will depend on how her recovery from knee surgery and subsequent therapy progress. Please pray for her in her ongoing healing.

We are excited to have Mary, her gifts, and her passions being focused full time towards the life and ministry of Covenant Christian Community Church. Pray that God will do great things in us and among us over the next year!!!
